Maudlyn Akosua Awuku, honoree, Youth Leadership in Sustainability Award at the House of Lords, British Parliament The historic House of Lords, London, echoed with the voices of global sustainability leaders and innovators as they convened for the 3rd edition of the Global Sustainability Summit and Awards on 28th March 2024.
The summit brought together visionaries, policymakers, and advocates for sustainability to chart a course towards a greener future. It featured a gathering of esteemed figures, including Her Excellency Ambassador Professor Olufolake Abdulrazaq, the first lady of Kwara State, Nigeria, and Sonia Dunlop, CEO of the Global Solar Council, who emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing pressing environmental challenges.
Participants engaged in dynamic dialogues covering topics ranging from renewable energy revolutions to sustainable finance and urgent climate action. Keynote speakers, including Imtiaz Hussain of Melton Capital, Charlot Magayi of Mukuru Clean Stoves, and Joanna Knight of a Sustainable Design Collective, inspired attendees with their insights and initiatives, urging a shift towards sustainable practices.
The summit also featured an awards ceremony, a pivotal moment that underscored the importance of youth leadership in sustainability. Among the esteemed awardees was Maudlyn Akosua Awuku, Founder and CEO of Anijie Global Foundation, GEWE Network, who was honoured with the Gender Equality and Youth Leadership in Sustainability Award. This recognition not only celebrates her outstanding contributions but also serves as a beacon of inspiration for other young leaders in the field.
Other notable awardees included Charlotte Magayi, CEO of Mukuru Clean Stoves; His Excellency Hon. Peter Odey, Deputy Governor of Cross River State; Her Excellency Olufolake Abdulrazaq, First Lady of Kwara State; Sonia Dunlop, CEO of the Global Solar Council; Nicole Hakim and Mariana Bejarano of Spora Studio; Joanna Knight, Co-founder of a Sustainable Design Collective; Johnathan Wragg, Global Sustainability Director at Prominate Global; Ann Molin, CEO of Hack for Earth AB; Rhona Morrell, CEO of Reclaim Earth and iReGen Limited; Mustapha Njie, CEO of TAF Africa Global Ltd; Netanela Duke, Co-founder of Obudu Conservation Center; Oshoma Zekeri, Co-founder and CEO of Vendoir; and Ucy Rochas, Director General of the Rochas Foundation.
The summit's official partners included esteemed organizations such as the FAO, World Food Forum, AYM4COP, ADHS, Vendoir, Vertical Aspects, and Lines and Web. The summit concluded with a call to action, urging global citizens to join the pledge for a greener future by supporting organizations working in the global south. The resounding message from the summit is clear: sustainability is not just an option but a necessity for the survival of our planet and future generations.
