In Ghana's Brong-Ahafo region, many girls miss school during their periods due to lack of access to proper menstrual products. This "period poverty" creates a silent barrier to education and empowerment, limiting their future prospects.

Anijie Global Foundation's EmpowerHER initiative, in collaboration with the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has successfully reached over 350 girls in the Brong-Ahafo region. This transformative "Period without Barriers" project ensures girls can manage their periods safely and comfortably while continuing their education.

Our Actions:

  • Donated sanitary pads to over 350 girls
  • Provided reusable menstrual products
  • Delivered comprehensive menstrual health education
  • Conducted leadership and confidence-building sessions
  • Advocated for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Engaged 50 boys in the conversation

Event Highlight:On May 28, 2024, at Akrodie St. Joseph Catholic Church, we gathered 350 girls and 50 boys from 10 schools. We shared accurate information about menstrual health, strategies to overcome stigma, and the importance of male support.

Our Unique Approach:What set this initiative apart was its inclusive approach. The Anijie Global Foundation believes in the power of community involvement, engaging key stakeholders to transmit their impact effectively to the beneficiaries. Chiefs, police officers, headteachers, assembly members, volunteers, and other dignitaries all lent their support, reinforcing the message that menstrual hygiene management is a community issue that requires collective action.

The Impact:Accurate information and proper supplies empower girls to take charge of their reproductive health from an early age," said an Anijie Global Foundation spokesperson. "This knowledge allows them to make informed decisions, stay confident, and pursue their education without interruption."

  • 350+ girls now manage periods safely and stay in school
  • Boys understand and support their female peers
  • Ten schools actively promote menstrual health
  • Communities are breaking long-held taboos
  • Girls are emerging as confident leaders

Our Global Vision: We're part of a global movement for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld, where everyone can access the products, education, and infrastructure needed for proper menstrual hygiene. Beyond Pads distribution, this initiative is breaking down barriers that limit girls' potential, fostering education continuity, nurturing leadership skills, empowering women and girls in achieving gender equality.

Join Our Journey: As we continue our work, we invite everyone to help create a more equitable future. In the Brong-Ahafo region, a world without period barriers is becoming a reality, one empowered girl at a time.
